Oh, this will be fun. A lot of work, a little time, and short-handed -- and I'm not even in the office!

| Kid sick, second day... |
[10 Nov 2009|03:26pm] |
Which at least let us out of a couple of logistical issues (primarily, coordinating picking up frozen-stuff from the school fundraiser order, which Had To Be Today At No Earlier Than 2pm (school letting out at 2:20)). Spouse is also sick again and working at home. He's having dizzy spells, apparently. Meh.
Kid's teacher was only in for a couple hours today herself -- coughing and horrible headaches. We picked up homework from her.

So I had this brilliant idea of taking some stickers intended for a car and mounting them on sheet magnets, so I could take them off for cleaning or when they wear out. Got the magnet sheets. Carefully mounted and cut out. And... there's not enough metal in the back hatch of the car for the magnet to stick.
Rassafrack.

| Headaches from Hades... |
[09 Nov 2009|06:13am] |
Got a horrible one last evening, for some reason, and retired early to read a bit and then cuddle with spouse. Happily, incandescens was okay. This morning, though, the kid woke up complaining of headache and some stomach hurting, so we've decided this may be a flu symptom (ze spouse, when he was sick a couple weeks ago, had some headachey bits) and have kept her home today.
My headache is mostly gone (took two doses of 2 pills of ibuprofen, about 3.5 hours apart). We'll see if the "feeling kind of queasy" issue was pain related or what.
Explanation for my last post's title is here.
INwatch: Core Rules: 436 (yay!), Lilith: 375, Eli: 353, Liber Umbrarum: 222, Litheroy: 214 (pi?), Asmodeus: 185 (yay!), Infernal Player's Guide: 117, GURPS In Nomine: 79 (yay!). | Preliminary notes on Dragon Age. |
[09 Nov 2009|12:35am] |
Yes, yes, oh god yes.
It's 12:30 AM, I've got a headache, and I'm seriously pondering if I want to boot the game back up and play more.
The characters are good, the backgrounds are solid; I really do like the game as a whole. The interface isn't PERFECT, but it's pretty damn good.
Morrigan's outfit is really, really silly.

Dreams last night involved a framing device of staying up late as a teenager to watch nudie movies - no actual nudie movies ended up being watched, but...
Dream #1 involved an episode of As Told By Ginger in which the eponymous Ginger, approximately 14-15 years old at the end of her series, gets big boobs. Not having a memory of the entire episode, I assume this is puberty related. Anyway, having big boobs sees her change her personality and use the boobs to get her way. There's a nacho dumping incident, and for some reason Tommy Pickles from All Grown Up is her boyfriend, despite easily being 4 or more years younger than her in "real" life.
This dream reminds me of how poorly Viacom subsidiaries - Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central - handle their animation properties. Fully half the third season of As Told by Ginger was never aired in the USA, including the series finale. All Grown Up just vanished one day. There's never been a DVD release of ATBG, despite being fairly critically acclaimed, and AGU has "enjoyed" the usual Nickelodeon 'random distribution of episodes, one or two per $20 DVD" business model.
Dream #2 involved an expansion of what I recall being a throw-away in Dream #1. There is a giant metal golem guarding the entrance to a modern building at the bottom of a flight of stairs. I (a rare appearance of me in a non-nightmare dream!) come to the stairs as a couple of young kids/halflings/midgets in hoodies head down the stairs in an attempt to test how far they can get before the golem, which is on a smoke break, removes them from the premises. I use this distraction to slip down behind a wall separating the stairs, and get into the building. Inside, is a fancy restaurant where I sit at the bar and have a dinner, while one of the bartenders asks if she knows me from someplace. Later, I'm in the foyer of the building watching the golem take another smoke break when a bunch of my tween friends (I guess I'm a tween too?) run into the foyer. They'd been working on a sneaky plan to get in all this time - apparently beyond the bar-restaurant is Berkeley? After happy greetings and some exposition, I wave to the Golem and say, "Hey, I'm done here. Can I go?" He waves me out, but the others have to come up with some sort of clever scheme to get out.
The golem design in this dream was kinda fun. He was made of armor plates and had a very characterful head design. I liked the casualness with which his smoke break pose was animated.

Also parent-teacher meeting, and psychologist evaluation part one (wherein he was doing the intelligence test, which took longer than he expected, he said, and -- unless we misunderstood him -- this was because he had to do the whole thing; one of those tests where it keeps asking questions until the testee gets X wrong or some-such).
I have more desire to do yarnbending projects than I have hands to do them with. Bother.
Much thanks to those who did the hoppy birdy thingies! O:>

But not to the yarn store, today, alas. Groceries a little, school store, discovered that the second shift fellow wasn't coming (got a call at the front office about it, so I didn't wind up with No Second Shift Fellow at the last minute, quite), handed off a questionnaire for the kid that the psychologist wants (the school counselor for 5th grade is enthusiastic about wanting to have that so they can write up a "501" plan without her having to "diagnose" a "mental disability" herself), got more grocery thingies, waited for kid, got kid, was informed that the teacher left before social skills class (the kid says it's because her class wasn't creative enough, but I am suspecting (hoping?) some other situation came up)...
Soon, Broadway Kids.
Oh, and it's Guy Fawkes Day. Also my birthday, heh.
The Stars are Right, Lil' Cthulhu! (Youtube vid. Recommended. Only 1d-3 SAN loss. Really.)

| Back and forth, back and forth... |
[04 Nov 2009|09:31pm] |
We needed to get incandescens a new watch battery, so we wound up going to the mall. The bookstore there and the yarn shop in the area had little to do with that decision. Really. Honest. Stop looking at me like that. o_o;
Amazingly, only a limited number of books managed to jump into my arms in the bookstore. Also renewed membership card thingie.
Then we went back, picked up kid, discovered that kid did NOT have the bit of homework that was required -- fortunately before we got out of the parking lot -- retrieved homework, got home, did homework, then dashed off to get the kid's tooth looked at. Fortunately, the "large piece" she said she lost was a teenytiny rough spot, which the dentist filed down in less than 10 minutes, poof, and sent us away again, saying not to bother with copay type stuff even. O_O
Have bid on a couple of horns for the kid. In the meantime, the teacher says to just bring a mouthpiece, and he'll have her use a single-french horn there.
Have been watching Princess Tutu. Which is like... Utena meets ballet school meets fairy tales, only the rose bride is the prince. Kinda. Also, the author of the fairy tale is the sort of author who likes to torment his characters (not that I'd know anything about that urge, of course not). And Duck's friends are clearly fanfic writers. >_>
